Blessed Are The Cheesemakers!

Catcher Media were lucky enough to get a sneak preview of the new Monkland cheesmakers at work. Last month, Dean Storey and Richard Hastings asked Catcher to do some publicity for them so we went along to film them preparing a new batch of cheese.

Dean said, “Incredibly, a Monkland cheese we make called Little Hereford is the only mature cows milk cheese made in Herefordshire.”

The pair have recently taken over the helm of producing Monkland cheeses. Monkland Cheese Dairy, in the north of the county, has been a working dairy producing local artisan cheeses for some 27 years and now Dean and Richard are stepping in to carry on the tradition.

We were lucky enough to sample some of their early attempts and they were delicious ( we’re not on commission I can assure you, but we have known the pair for many years).

Some of the newer softer cheeses are already going into shops but the harder cheeses, which take longer to mature, should be going out very soon.

Currently, the pair are recruiting new staff and setting up a website so at this interim stage enquiries should go to: monklandcheesemakers@gmail.com
