Were you a student at the Hereford College of Arts? If so, be prepared for a trip down memory lane with these four oral history interviews that have landed on our Herefordshire Life Through A Lens website. The interviews were conducted for the Hereford College of Arts at 170 years celebrations but we thought HLTAL viewers would like to take a look: https://www.herefordshirelifethroughalens.org.uk/hereford-college-of-art/
The interviews range from 4-8 mins long and are nice bite-sized shorts with some great stories about the students at HCA: after the Arts Ball, sneaking in through the basement window at Castle Green to escape the freezing cold at three in the morning; the feeling of “coming home” to be with other creatives. The recurring theme is how formative HCA proved to be and its importance as a creative hub, one which gave rise to many outside cultural activities.

Interestingly, all of the interviewees took their arts training and incorporated it into their lives and careers. From Murf setting up Beefy Boys with his art college mates, to Judy Giles who became an art director handling countrywide clients. There’s Shona getting her illustrated children’s books published to Mark who stayed HCA for 25 years but exhibits in the UK and abroad.
