Were you a student at the Hereford College of Arts? If so, be prepared for a trip down memory lane with these four oral history video interviews that were first previewed on our heritage website Herefordshire Life Through A Lens. The interviews were conducted for The Hereford College of Arts at 170 years celebrations and they represent a wide spread of experiences. What the interviewees have in common is the inspiration that studying art provided each of them, and the strong influence it exerted their life and career. The films focus on each interviewees time at HCA but some set up successful businesses (not always in the creative industries) while others carried on their art practice both within and outside of academia.
Judy Giles first attended the college in the late 1950s when it was located on Castle Green, while Shona Warnes attended the newly built Folly Lane building in the early 1970s. Anthony ‘Murf’ Murphy also attended Folly Lane, but nearly thirty years after Shona had done, in 1998-2000, and the last of the four, Mark Houghton, has been an art tutor at Folly Lane and College Road, dating back to the late 1990s right up to the present-day.
Each film is about five minutes long, so presents a small taste of their HCA experiences. We hope you enjoy these films as much as we enjoyed making them. NB: Subtitles can be accessed by pressing the ‘CC’ button on the player.
