U&Me film premiere

U&Me our new inclusive relationships film premiered at Grace Academy, Walsall. Local dignitaries and NHS staff watched remotely (due to Covid restrictions) and participants shared their experiences of the project. Rick and Julia from Catcher Media were unable to attend as they both had Covid – the first time they’d missed a screening in 25 years of Catcher Media!

Catcher had waited so long to do the U&ME Inclusive Relationships film, with various lockdowns, so when Rick and Therese Collins (our regular drama collaborator) arrived at the first workshop we all had high expectations. And neither were disappointed.

From the beginning the team could see they’d struck gold. The group were very accepting of the two workshop leaders and extremely open-minded about the sometimes difficult topics discussed in the session. They continually came up with loads of great ideas, images and dialogue.

Making the film was a massive team effort. There were so many things to get right and yet so many things that might go wrong but all of the crew – Rick, Julia, Therese, Neil, Ian, Jack and Nikki were endlessly impressed by the students’ patience and professionalism. Mr Miles, Ms Giles and Ms Roberts at Grace Academy were incredibly supportive.

“We have been impressed with the quality of the finished project and it has been used with groups of our students who have responded well to the themes and messages it presents. The themes were developed with the young people and Catcher Media ensured they had a real voice in guiding the film so it was relevant to them. It is an extremely useful tool to help schools tackle issues of relationships, teenage partner abuse and harmful sexual behaviours/bullying.” Phil Miles, Assistant Principal at Grace Academy, Walsall.

The finished film is really striking and we’re all hoping it encourages young people to discuss positive and unhealthy relationships, and to treat one another with respect and understanding. Link to the U&Me page on this website or EasySRE.
